Are you a good enough speller to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee?
There are 281 master spellers from all 50 U.S. states, including American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Department of Defense Schools. Spellers have also traveled from the Bahamas, Canada, China, Ghana, Jamaica, Japan and South Korea and are anxiously preparing for the 2014 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The youngest speller is 8-year-old Hussain Godhrawala of South Carolina. The oldest competitor is 15.
The preliminaries take place Wednesday with the semifinals and finals taking place on Thursday.
Each contestant takes a preliminary exam which includes 12 score spelling words, 12 score vocabulary words and a Round Two vocabulary question and Round Three vocabulary question. Spellers can earn a total of 30 points. How far would you go?
