BRUNSWICK, Ohio - The Brunswick City School District is closing all its elementary and middle schools for the rest of the week to prevent the spread of norovirus.
The district said is consulted with the Medina County Board of Health in making the decision. Classes at the schools will resume on Tuesday, May 28.
The norovirus, commonly referred to as the stomach flu, causes vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, chills, low-grade fever and fatigue.
Brunswick City Schools also postponed the eighth grade field trip to Washington D.C. It will be rescheduled during next school year.
"We understand that this may be disappointing to some of our students, but feel this is the best decision for the health and safety everyone in the district," the district.
Brunswick High School will remain open. The district said the high school has not experienced drops in attendance.
