A warning for parents this morning: What your kids post on Facebook and Twitter could keep them from getting into the college they want to attend.
Kaplan, a for-profit organization that provides test prep and higher education courses, says 31 percent of admissions officers they surveyed admitted they check the social media profiles of applicants to their colleges.
For example, the New York Times reported that one student left a lasting impression at Bowdoin College in Massachusetts when she tweeted during an info session at the college, making critical remarks about other attendees.
That figure is up from last year and expected to continue growing.
