Nearly 30 years as an emergency dispatcher couldn't prepare a Cleveland Heights man for the day the tables turned and he needed 911.

Nick Pishnery told News 5 the story from his room in University Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

"It's unbelievable how lucky I am," he said.

Pishnery typically talks you through your emergencies as a 911 dispatcher.

"When you call, I'm the person you're gonna talk to," he said.

But this week, he experienced his own. He was saved by Cleveland Heights fire crews.

"We didn't know at first that it was him," Fire Chief Dave Freeman said.

"My coworkers! My buddies. They're family to me," Pishnery said.

Pishnery said he was happy to share his story, because even after working together for nearly 30 years, he has a new understanding for what emergency crews do every day.

"I am so lucky to be alive!"
