12-Year-Old Leads Troopers On 19-Mile Chase

MEDINA, Ohio -- Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers had to use stopsticks to stop an underage driver during a 19-mile chase. Troopers said a 12-year-old boy led them on a high-speed chase through two counties Saturday afternoon. Motorists reported seing a van being driven erratically southbound on Interstate 71 near Middleburg Heights. A trooper spotted the van in Medina County and tried to stop it at about 2:30 p.m. They were finally able to use the stopsticks to disable the van near U.S. 250 in Ashland County.The boy was arrested and his parents called. He would not say why he took off in the van. However, troopers said the van may have been taken without permission in East Cleveland.
