CLEVELAND -- It took 17 months, but now Cleveland City Councilman Zack Reed is officially off probation after a DUI conviction and 10 days in jail.Released by Municipal Judge Joan Synenburg Tuesday, Reed admitted in court that he made some poor choices, reported NewsChannel5' s Joe Pagonakis.A videotape report played in court suggested that Reed had been to bars in the Warehouse District. His probation officer told the judge that Reed's alcohol monitoring and treatment should be extended an additional six month after Reed was seen in the same area where he was caught drinking and driving and violating his probation. But Reed was prepared to defend himself against the videotaped allegations, calling on a group of Warehouse District bartenders. One of the bartenders told the court that Reed drank only soft drinks the night of the videotaped report.Reed took the stand and told Synenberg that he did not consume alcohol. Ten minutes later, Reed was released from his probation.Later outside court, Reed admitted that he made some bad judgements.Reed will be back to work as Ward 3 councilman Tuesday evening, holding a neighborhood safety meeting. He said he will continue to give talks on the dangers of drinking and driving. When asked if he will be back in the Warehouse District anytime soon, he said that he will make better choices than he did in the past.
