The Ohio State Highway Patrol is going to increase its attention to commercial vehicle safety along Interstate 90 in Cuyahoga County this week.

According to an OSHP news release, officers will be examining driver's commercial driver license status, alcohol and drug impairment, driver fatigue, log book records, load security, hazardous material violations and other mechanical defects.

The OSHP said it hopes to reduce serious injuries and fatal crashes in Cuyahoga County. Last year, the county led the state with 10 commercial vehicle-involved fatalities.

Officers from the Westlake, Cleveland, Euclid and Bratenahl police departments will assist in the enforcement efforts.

The special initiative will run Tuesday through Thursday this week.
