Police ended their search Friday night of a west side home, garage and dog house.

They were looking for the body of Gina DeJesus who disappeared more than two years ago from a west side neighborhood.

Her body was not found, but police found 19 pieces of evidence that are "consistent with a missing 13-year-old girl," police said.

Officers had gotten a detailed tip in the case of the missing 14-year-old Cleveland girl.

Police and the FBI arrived Friday morning at a home in the 3500 block of West 50th Street. Police said they received information that her body may be buried inside the garage, NewsChannel5 reported.

Police made two arrests in connection with the case. The men were being questioned in the DeJesus case and were being held on unrelated charges.

According to police, multiple search warrants were executed at the home and garage of registered sex offender Matthew Hurayt. Police brough in equipment and dug up the cement garage floor to see if there was any evidence of the missing teen's body.

Police said they first received information about the possible link between the home and the missing teen about a week ago.

According to Police Lt. Tom Stacho, a male tipster called in the information, saying he couldn't live with himself if he didn't come forward. Police worked for about a week verifying and confirming information from the tipster before securing their warrants.

Police said they have arrested Hurayt and another man, 53-year-old John McDonough. They have not been charged, but are being considered as potential suspects in the case.

The search of the home is focused on the garage area, but a source close to police said there may be a dungeon-like room in the home's basement.

Police said they were slow and methodical about the excavation of the garage. They removed the concrete in sections, and will then used a backhoe to remove a couple of layers below the concrete. Police said they dug down more than 4 feet and didn't find anything, Commander Ed Tomba said.

They also used a cadaver dog from the Geauga County sheriff's department.

Hundreds of people have gathered in the street around the house to watch the progress of the excavation.

Suspect's Background

NewsChannel5 learned that the 36-year-old Hurayt, who has been classified as a sexual predator, was recently arrested on charges of kidnapping and assault. His trial was continued earlier this month, and he posted bond.

Hurayt has an extensive criminal background with at least nine sex convictions over the past 20 years. He spent 10 years in prison for sexual battery involving a 17-year-old female acquaintance.

Neighbors that NewsChannel5 spoke with said they feared Hurayt, who was very reclusive. They also said that the home had become a haven for other sex offenders.

Gina's Disappearance

Gina disappeared April 2, 2004, from West 105th Street and Lorain Avenue while she was walking home from Wilbur Wright Middle School.

There have been several tips provided in the case, but they have not led to finding Gina.

The DeJesus family Friday morning asked for their privacy to be respected, but community activist Art McCoy, speaking on the family's behalf, said that they are remaining hopeful that Gina is still alive until they receive information to the contrary.

Police and FBI use a relatively new Web site to help assist in missing children cases. You can find out more about it here.
