NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- Students in a Stark County school system are taking precautions against staph infection after players on North Canton's Hover High School football team contracted it.Prior to Sept. 15, three players on the team showed signs of staph infections, and over the weekend another student broke out with a rash, NewsChannel5 reported. The students spoke up right away about their conditions."As soon as they see something that looks out of the ordinary, they know to come talk to me," said athletic director Tim Kernan. "As soon as I see it's something out of the ordinary, I call over the team docs. I get our team docs involved immediately. The root of the problem comes from the football team locker room. The school superintendent said the room is not attached to the main school building and workers are continuously washing it with bleach and water."Typically, this is a wrestling-related dilemma that you have because of mats, a high heat, moisture combining, so it was a little unusual to have it in a football locker room," said Superintendent Mike Gallina. This week there have also been reports of staph infections at Lakewood and Berea high schools. None of the cases appear to be linked to the outbreaks at the other schools.
