CLEVELAND -- Councilman Zach Reed spoke out before and after a competency hearing on Thursday, criticizing some of the media coverage of his DUI conviction and calling it yellow journalism.Reed was pulled over by police in the Warehouse District several months ago. He spent 10 days in jail, and was ordered to wear an electronic device while on probation, and to have a Breathalyzer device installed in his car.NewsChannel5 reported that Reed believed he would be taken off probation during the hearing, but a judge denied that request, instead accusing him of violating his probation and continuing to frequent Warehouse bars.Reed denies ever taking a drink since April, saying he has done everything the court has asked him to do.Reed also lashed out at some of the media coverage of his legal troubles."You've got yellow journalism being portrayed in this city right now. They know the facts are I have not consumed any alcohol since April 13, 2006," Reed said.Reed will now face a probation violation hearing on Sept. 26. The judge suggested to Reed that he get an attorney before then, saying that he must prove to her that he hasn't been drinking.
