A 5 On Your Side investigation has prompted calls for the firing of a top city official.

NewsChannel5 reported William Desvari is Lorain's chief building inspector.

In July, a 5 On Your Side investigation asked how he could hire a registered sex offender to go door to door in the city.

It also revealed that Desvari was running a private contracting company in violation of Lorain City ordinances.

Lorain City Council voted Tuesday night to fire Desvari from his city job.

It's now up to Lorain Mayor Craig Foltin to decide if he will be let go.
