The family of a local teen arrested to make sure she would testify against the man suspected of raping her has filed a lawsuit.

The family of the girl filed the $12 million suit against Summit County prosecutors and the sheriff's department, NewsChannel5 reported.

Lawyers for the family said the girl was treated like a criminal and even was strip-searched.

In May, prosecutors said the girl's mom told them that her daughter would be safer behind bars. Now her mother says she was misrepresented.

The teen did eventually take the stand during the May trial. The suspect, 20-year-old Galo Sanchez Pesantes, was found not guilty.
