CLEVELAND -- A man accused of taking thousands of dollars in kickbacks from contracts with the Cleveland Catholic Diocese pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday. NewsChannel5 reported the diocese's former CFO, Joseph Smith is charged with 23 counts, including conspiracy, mail fraud and money laundering. Smith's bond was set at $50,000. He has to wear an electronic monitoring device from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. He also must remain at his residence.When Smith was indicted, a grand jury also handed up charges against another man, Anton Zgoznik. He also pleaded not guilty in court.The men are accused of working together to defraud the diocese of more than $750,000.
