CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson is trying to raise $15 million to show the Republican National Convention Committee that the city is serious about hosting the event. So far, there is about $8 million in cash pledges with $10.5 million in contributions, NewsChannel5 reported.There are serious questions about if the money will be there if the convention comes to Cleveland.Estimates put the price tag of hosting the Republican National Covention at $75 million, and most of that would come from federal and state sources. After a meeting in Cleveland concerning casino gambling, Sen. George Voinovich said he is waiting to find out exactly how much national money will be provided.Voinovich added that even when he was mayor of Cleveland he didn't wan the president to come to town because of the overtime he had to pay officers.The committee will be in town next Tuesday through Thursday.Cleveland is in competition with New York, Minneapolis and Tampa, Fla.
