BOE Wants More Voting Machines

New Machines Would Cost $3M

The Board of Elections officials met with Cuyahoga County Commissioners Wednesday to discuss purchasing additional voting machines to prepare for the November Election, NewsChannel5 reported.

The initial request, which was asking for about $3 million, also included hiring staff and buying equipment.

BOE officials said the additional machines would make the ratio 1 to 150 for the for the number of registered active voters (about 900,000).

Some officials thought the ratio should be based upon turnout in the last Presidential election in 2004, a high water mark for turnout of about 70 percent.

The BOE request comes a day after a successful election on Tuesday.

State Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones also attended the meeting.
