CLEVELAND -- The head of the Republican National Committee is spending a second day in Cleveland. His visit comes just weeks before a site survey to see if Cleveland is the place to host the party's next national convention. Chairman of the Republican National Committee Ken Mehlman will be addressing people at the City Club Wednesday morning. Later this afternoon, he will attend a rally with Mike Dewine. The senator is in a tight race with Democrat Sherrod Brown. On Tuesday night, Mehlman spent time with Dewine’s campaign volunteers in Avon. While Mehlman is here to support local and state Republicans running for office, many are talking about what is at stake for Cleveland if the city is selected to host the 2008 Republican Convention. Melhman is not on the selection committee, he will accompany the group during a tour of Cleveland. Cleveland is competing against Tampa, New York and Minneapolis. The number of hotels in proximity to downtown Cleveland will be a key issue. The selection committee will make a recommendation in November and then a final vote in January.
