LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- Members of Congress are working overtime to make sure that the president and the military have the money and clearance that they need to take action.
NewsChannel5's Jodi Brooks reports that U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich (pictured, right) is back home Sunday listening to the people of northeastern Ohio.Kucinich started his second two-hour meeting in Lakewood, where he will answer questions from the public. He spoke with residents in Parma, Ohio, earlier in the day.Kucinich flew in from Washington, D.C., Saturday night, and speaking with his constituents was first on his agenda. Many people had questions to ask the congressman Sunday, and they wanted to know how he felt about the terrorist attacks.Kucinich encouraged open expression during the meetings, and the meeting attendants were very emotional and vocal."This need not have happened if we gave the Palestinians their just cause," one man said.
Many local religious leaders also spoke out."We shall not allow this tragedy to turn us to be enemies against our fellow Arab- and Muslim-Americans," one Arab-American leader said.Several people asked Kucinich how the United States planned to respond and when the response happen. The congressman chose his words very carefully, saying that the country will "be very patient and deliberate" in responding. He said that he doesn't know when the country will react, but that even if he did, he couldn't say anything because of security reasons.
