The mayor had refused to let ghost hunters into the Broadview Developmental Center before it was torn down.

At least three groups of paranormal investigators wanted to visit the center to prove there are ghosts.

Some investigators said that during a visit outside, they heard a voice telling them to "get out."

The building has been deteriorating through the years. It was closed in 1989.

The company knocking down the first wing of the old building won the demolition contract through a raffle at the Broadview Heights Summer Festival, NewsChannel5 reported.

Another contractor will contine demolishing the the main part of the building. The project will take a couple months to complete.

The city plans to use the old site as green space for the recreation center.
