Test Shows Shawn Kemp Fathered Local Boy
Mother Taking Former Cav Back To Court
UPDATED: 6:58 p.m. EDT September 7, 2001
CANTON, Ohio -- Former Cleveland Cavalier Shawn Kemp is admitting that he is the father of another child and attorney representing a local woman thinks he has at least 12 children.
NewsChannel5 reports that paternity tests confirm that Kemp is the father of a little boy born last May to a Canton woman.
Nikki Giavasis says that she and Kemp had a relationship dating back more than four years.
"Prior to my son being born, (Kemp) was around -- emotionally and financially -- up until this year he was around. We would either go see him or he would come to the
house and see us," she said.
WEWS says that Kemp was a central figure in a 1998 Sports Illustrated article that said he'd fathered seven children out of wedlock.
Giavasis said that privately, Kemp admitted to fathering only two. The rest she said were lies. Now, however, she knows better.
She gets $2,500 a month for her child but she wants more.
"I could have cared less about his money, I loved him and he said he loved me," she said. "Getting pregnant, I wouldn't say I regret it because I love my son and he deserves a good life."
Kemp has said publicly that he will take responsibility for his actions. A court hearing is set for mid-October.
