Background Checks Will Be Required For Ice Cream Vendors

Licenses To Be Denied To People With Sexual, Violent Crime Convictions

Cleveland City Council Thursday passed legislation that will require background checks for all licensed ice cream truck drivers.

The background checks will look for sexual and violent crimes that would prohibit a license from being issued to an individual.

The legislation also requires vendors' licenses to be displayed in clear view.

Ice cream vendors must have two licenses, one to operate and one signed by the council member presiding over the area of the city that the vendor wants to work in.

The law will go into effect once the bill is signed by the mayor.
