AKRON, Ohio -- Gloria James, LeBron James' mother, was sentenced to three days in a state driving intervention program and fined in court Friday after she pleaded no contest to four misdemeanor charges. NewsChannel5 reported James changed her plea to no contest after initially pleading not guilty to avoid a jury trial.James, 37, was pulled over after off-duty officers claimed she was driving erratically in January.
Police Release Recording Of James Arrest Police said she also kicked and damaged their car window. As part of an agreement, she pleaded no contest to physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence instead of operating a vehicle under the influence."The only difference between the two is operating (vehicle under the influence) is actually physically driving it on state highways and thoroughfares," said Reid Yoder, the city attorney. "Here, the physical control, the legation, is she was sitting in the front seat while under the influence."WEWS reported the judge told James there is a lesson in the experience."I hope this attention at least is a signal to you (that) any inappropriate conduct you take part in will have consequences very public consequences," said Akron Municipal Court Judge Lynne Callahan.
