Akron Youth Coach Acquitted Of Manslaughter

Man Found Guilty Of Assault Over $5 Parking Fee

POSTED: 4:34 pm EDT May 5, 2006

Jurors reached a verdict Friday in the involuntary manslaughter and assault trial of a Akron-area youth baseball coach.

Richard Haught, of Cuyahoga Falls, was found not guilty on the involuntary manslaughter charge but was found guilty of assault.

Prosecutors said Haught beat Robert Abrams to death with a baseball bat during a tournament last July. The fight was over a $5 parking fee.

The jury began deliberating earlier this week and told the judge they were deadlocked. However, the judge ordered them to continue deliberations until they could agree on a verdict.

He will be sentenced for the assault conviction on Monday.
