1,000 Men Needed For Prostate Cancer Study
Local Hospitals Launching Prevention Study
CLEVELAND -- The call is going out for 1,000 men to participate in a 12-year prostate cancer prevention study.
NewsChannel5 reports that the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and the Veterans' Administration Hospital are launching the study locally.
They want to know whether two antioxidants, vitamin E and selenium, can reduce the risk of prostate cancer.
"The general eligibility criteria are age 55 or older for Caucasians, 50 or older for African-Americans," Dr. Eric Klein of the Cleveland Clinic said. "They have to have normal blood pressure, normal digital rectal exam and a normal blood level of the prostate specific antigen, or PSA."
To enroll in the study, call University Hospitals at (800) 641-2422, the Cleveland Clinic at (866) 273-3228 or the VA at (216) 791-3800.
