Police Make Arrest In Connection With Trolley Stabbing

RTA Security Camera Captures Argument, Stabbing On Tape

UPDATED: 1:32 am EDT April 20, 2006

Police in Akron have arrested a man wanted in connection with an RTA trolley stabbing.

Darrell Livingston, 45, was arrested just before 5 p.m. Wednesday on Rhodes Avenue. Livingston was wanted by Cleveland police not only for Monday's stabbing, but also for another felonious assault, NewsChannel5 reported.

Police said Livingston has done jail time in Florida and has several Cleveland addresses, but none of them is real.

Police believe Livingston stabbed Raymond Mills after the two argued over a seat on the trolley Monday morning.

High-quality security cameras caught the argument and the violent incident on tape.

Akron police are making arrangements for Livingston to be returned to Cleveland to face charges.

RTA officials say their drivers are trained for situations such as Monday's stabbing incident.

"She opened all the doors, so the passengers could exit away from the danger zone, which is what she's trained to do. She stepped off the vehicle away from the danger zone and on her cell phone make a second call to the transit police," the RTA's Michael York said of the trolley's driver.

All of the new trolleys and every bus in the future will have high-tech cameras and GPS tracking systems.
