Police Officers Injured In Multiple Vehicle Pileup

BRATENAHL, Ohio -- Traffic remained backed up for miles on Interstate 90 east after a multiple vehicle accident Monday afternoon.A tractor-trailer, pickup truck, a police sport utility vehicle and another SUV were involved in the pileup, which occurred around 1:30 p.m. near Eddy Road. The police SUV belongs to the Bratenahl Police Department. NewsChannel5 has learned that two officers were injured in the accident.The highway was closed at East 55th Street for several hours after the accident. Traffic was backed up for nearly seven miles at one point.One of the injured officers was transported by helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition. The other officer was taken to Huron Hospital, and there is no word on his condition.Police from Cleveland and other surrounding communities were on hand to assist Bratenahl in clearing the accident. An investigation is under way to find out what caused the accident.There is no word on injuries suffered by other drivers and passengers involved in the crash.
