Man Accused Of Raping, Killing Infant Niece Faces Judge
Bond For Canton Man Set At $3 Million

CANTON, Ohio -- A man accused of raping and murdering his infant niece was arraigned in a Canton courtroom Monday.Judge Stephen Belden handed 32-year-old Henry Anthony Sunderman a $3 million bond because of the nature of what he's accused of, reported NewsChannel5's Carolina Leid.Sunderman is charged with two first-degree felonies in the murder and rape of his 7-month-old niece, Zoey Sunderman.The baby's mother, 26-year-old Leslie Sunderman, left court sobbing and being held up by family members.The child's uncle sits in jail on suicide watch and had to be transported separately to Canton Municipal Court for his safety.Canton police say the Stark County man was taking care of the infant, her 7-year-old brother and 5- and 2-year-old sisters at their Waynesburg home while the children's mother was at work.Police said Henry Sunderman called 911 Friday morning saying the infant was unresponsive.Zoey Sunderman was taken to Aultman and Akron Children's hospitals but died Friday.Henry Sunderman's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.
