Police: 10-Year-Old Pulls Knife At Sunday School

UPDATED: 9:03 am EST March 6, 2006

Police said when two 10-year-old boys got into an argument at Sunday school, one of them pulled a knife, NewsChannel5 partner ONN reported.

The pastor at Peace United Methodist Church said the Sunday school teacher immediately grabbed the pocket knife from the child and called police.

Clinton Township Police and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call.

No one was hurt.

The church started the Sunday morning outreach program for children eight months ago after two kids vandalized the church.

The Rev. John Gerard said Sunday's incident demonstrates one reason the program is needed.

"We've also been very clear with those kids, and the other kids, that while this is not acceptable, they are welcome here at this church at any time," Gerard said.

The two boys were released into the custody of their parents, who are not members of the church.

Gerard said he planned on meeting Monday with the other children who were in the classroom so they can talk about what happened.
