Does Brushing Skin Get Rid Of Cellulite?

Many Women Swear By It

You've tried exercise and you've tried dieting, but that stubborn cellulite just will not go away.

What if there was a way to make the ugly fat disappear simply by using a brush? NewsChannel5's Barbara Meek looks at the latest weapon in the fight against those dreaded dimples.

It's lumpy, bumpy and hard to get rid of. Women will do just about anything to smooth over cellulite.

Teresa Tapp said that eliminating cellulite doesn't have to be that hard, and that it actually takes only seven minutes a day.

It's called brushing. It's part of a system she created called CRT, marketed as a cellulite-removal, skin-tightening system. According to Tapp, a specific upward brushing pattern is all that it takes.

"I honestly believe that skin brushing does help in the elimination of cellulite from the body," she said.

Sherri Richard said that the brushing has reduced her cellulite.

"When I look in the mirror today and not see anything, to me, that's significant," she said.

Video Brush It Away With CRT Cellulite is a stubborn kind of fat. Collagen strands that run through the fatty tissue don't stretch well. More fat means more rippling.

Brushing may feel good, but does it really make cellulite go away? NewsChannel5 asked Dr. Thomas Biggs, a plastic surgeon, if he thinks that brushing has any impact.

"No, I think it has no (impact)," Biggs said. "The claims just don't have scientific justification."

Still, many women who have purchased the brushing system swear by it.

"It's invigorating," Aimee Dubbison said. "It makes me feel good, and I've noticed a decrease in cellulite."

"My thighs are getting tighter," Bobbi Tribble said. "There's still a lot of cellulite. I'm a big person, so there's a lot there, but I've noticed a big difference in my skin."

"It's the exercise that's helping, and in carrying out the exercise, they're losing some of the fat that's packed in this space," Biggs said.

But brushers are standing by their ritual, WEWS reports.

"I don't want to mislead anyone out there to think (that) if you do the CRT skin-tightening system alone that your cellulite's going to totally go away," Tapp said. "I wish it were that easy. But, it will definitely improve."

Tapp's cellulite buster sells for about $70.
