Glenville Football Player Killed After Flats Concert
UPDATED: 7:20 am EST January 30,
2006
CLEVELAND -- A concert in the Flats turned deadly early Sunday morning. Now police are trying to figure out who killed a 16-year old boy. Anthony Gordon, a Glenville High School sophomore and running back on the football team, was shot and killed at about 12:20 a.m. as dozens of people poured out of Club Kaos, NewsChannel5 reported. Investigators said a fight and gunfire started after a concert finished at the nightclub at West 10 and Main streets. When officers arrived, they found Gordon shot several times. The East Cleveland teenager died at MetroHealth Medical Center. Police say the teen should not have been there in the first place. A gun was recovered from the scene, but there is no word if it was the one used to shoot Gordon. Police were concerned that some many kids were out after Cleveland's curfew. "We had a number of juveniles ranging in age from as young at 9 or 10 years old at this concert out passed curfew. Curfew in the city of Cleveland for juveniles goes from dark until midnight," said Lt. Thomas Stacho No arrests have been made in the case. Grief counselors will be on hand for students and staff Monday. His family said Anthony was in the wrong place at the wrong time. "He was a good kid all he wanted to do was play football," Angelo Gordon, Anthony's brother, said.
