Teen Illegally In U.S. Granted Stay

Teen Came To Country With Grandparents

POSTED: 3:20 pm EST December 30, 2005

There was a small victory for a northern Ohio teen who was locked up for being in the United States illegally.

NewsChannel5 reported Manuel Bartsch was granted a stay.

  SURVEY
Should a teen who came to the United States with his grandparents be deported?

Bartsch came to the United States on a 90-day visa with his grandparents when he was in fourth grade but never applied for permanent citizenship.

Recently, the 18-year-old found out he was here illegally.

U.S. Immigration officials said the law is the law, and said Bartsch would be deported to his native Germany in 90 days.

Another hearing is set for Wednesday.
