Voinovich, Kucinich Against Lake Erie Drilling
Environmentalists Ready For Fight
"I stand firmly opposed to any attempt to drill in the Great Lakes. This proposal is a sad example of corporate manipulation, pushing up energy costs in order to threaten the Great Lakes," Kucinich tells NewsChannel5.
Sen. George Voinovich is also speaking out against drilling for natural gas in Lake Erie.
NewsChannel5 reports that Voinovich is looking to dissuade state lawmakers from even considering the possibility.
The Republican wrote a letter to Gov. Bob Taft, saying that efforts to preserve the lake are among the most significant in his career.
Environmental groups have said that they are ready for a fight, if it looks like drilling will start.
