Charges Dropped Against Coach, Umpire In Baseball Fight

Brawl Took Place After Ump Threw Coach's Son Out Of Game

POSTED: 3:36 pm EDT October 19, 2005

A fight between a local umpire and coach has led to charges being thrown out.

Umpire Howard Claflin and parent-coach Robert Wiley faced a judge Wednesday for sentencing.

Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Judge Kim Hoover allowed Wiley to change his no contest plea, then accepted Hudson Prosecutor Jason Hickman's suggestion that the charge against each be dismissed. Claflin's lawyer, Michael Callahan, said his client and Wiley agreed not to sue each other.

Claflin claimed Wiley punched him after the umpire threw out Wiley's son during a ballgame in July.

The two were charged with disorderly conduct.
