Brandon McCloud

Police Shoot Teen While Serving Search Warrant

Upset Neighbors To Hold Rally

UPDATED: 5:34 pm EDT September 1, 2005

An investigation is under way after Cleveland police were involved in the shooting of a 15-year-old boy on Cleveland's east side.

Sept. 1: Shooting Scene

The shooting happened at about 5:15 a.m. Thursday on Jeffries Street off Warner Road. Cleveland police detectives entered Brandon McCloud's second-floor bedroom, looking for stolen merchandise.

Police say the ninth-grader threatened them with a steak knife, and police then fired nearly a dozen shots.

McCloud was pronounced dead at the scene.

McCloud's family members are calling the shooting brutal, criminal, and a tragic mistake, Pagonakis reported.

Cleveland police are conducting a full internal investigation.

Police also say that the search warrant used, which isn't signed by a judge, is a good warrant: It wasn't signed because it's a copy.

McCloud was just coming off of three months of house arrest for stealing cash from a pizza deliveryman, and was also suspected of being involved in other neighborhood heists.

But according to the search warrant inventory list, no stolen items were found in McCloud's home.

Upset neighbors are holding a rally Thursday night, asking police to justify their actions.

The two police detectives involved in the shooting, Philip Habeeb and John Kraynik, have been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
