HUDSON, Ohio -- An umpire and a parent who got into a baseball brawl earlier this month will both face charges.
Hudson police said the umpire, Howard Claflin, of Cuyahoga Falls, and the parent-coach, Robert Wiley, of Broadview Heights, will be charged with disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.
SLIDESHOW: Umpire Beaten Up Clafin, left the July 1 game with a black eye, broken finger and stitches. He saw a 14-year-old player from North Royalton slam his helmet twice, so he ejected the player from the game, NewsChannel5 reported. That's when witnesses told Hudson police that the boy's father, who is also an assistant coach, charged the umpire and began screaming in his face.Claflin said that his instincts told him the man was so enraged that his life could be in jeopardy, so he grabbed the man's collar.Wiley and Claflin will be summoned to appear in Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court. The men face a maximum sentence of 30 days in jail and a $250 fine.
