CLEVELAND -- Investigators are using new information about the sole survivor of the East 87th Street blaze to help them investigate the fatal arson fire.
A NewsChannel5 source confirmed that investigators are taking a close look at Capprita Bell's injuries.Capprita Bell, 21, is the only survivor of the May 21 fire that killed eight children and one adult. She was released from the hospital on Monday.Of interest is the fact that the burns she received were limited to her hands, parts of her face and just the bottom of her feet.According to the source, Bell told investigators she was on the 2nd-floor back porch when the fire started, and exited down the stairs to the first floor, through the heart of the fire, and out the back porch door. But sources said investigators point to the extensive damage of the back porch and say if Bell made her exit during the main part of the blaze, her injuries would likely be more extensive. The source also said that investigators find it peculiar that Bell says she can't remember very much about her escape through the flames, or why she didn't try to wake the three children who were sleeping in the bedroom through which she made her escape. No arrests have been made yet in the arson. If you have any information that could help investigators find the person responsible for setting the blaze, call Crime Stoppers at (216) 252-7463.
