On Thursday, the Maple Heights city prosecutor took the case to the next level when police delivered a summons to Jackson's home for three misdemeanor charges stemming from that arrest.

SLIDESHOW: Anchor Arrested

He has been charged with disorderly conduct, misconduct at an emergency scene and obstruction of official business.

Jackson was handcuffed and arrested by Maple Heights police on May 15. Police said Jackson crossed a police line during an investigation at an apartment building.

Jackson said a resident invited him into the building.

Jackson's attorney, Terry Brennan, said these charges are unnecessary.

"Mr. Jackson acted in a professional and courteous manner and did not violate any laws, and we believe he should not have been charged as a criminal for what he was doing lawfully," said Brennan.

NewsChannel5 news director John Butte said he has never seen or heard of anything like this in his entire career, and says Jackson was just doing his job.

"I know Curtis Jackson's character, I know who he is as a person, I know who he is as a journalist," said Butte. "These charges, this situation, incredulous to me and preposterous."

Jackson will be in court for those charges later this month.
