CLEVELAND -- NewsChannel5 learned exclusive information about the accelerant used to ignite a fatal East 87th Street fire, and where the flammable liquid was found inside the house.
5 On Your Side investigator Ron Regan reported on what happened inside the home just moments before someone deliberately set it on fire, killing eight children and a mother.
Sources tell NewsChannel5 that someone poured a flammable liquid from just inside the front door, through the living room and into the dining room, stopping just inside a back window.Sources also confirmed that at least two full gallons of gasoline were used.Fire investigators said they believe whoever set the fire knew the victims and had access to the home, but said there are no suspects.Upstairs, all eight children were found still in their beds -- they never had a chance to flee. Only 34-year-old Medeia Carter, in one of the home's four bedrooms, was found on the floor beside her bed.Investigators say they have good reasons why even more details of what happened are not being released.NewsChannel5 also confirmed that four of the five smoke detectors inside the home were functioning, which gives an idea of how rapidly the fire spread.Anyone with information that could help investigators should call Crime Stoppers at (216) 252-7463.
