Encoding Center To Close By February

POSTED: 5:55 pm EDT May 5, 2005

More than 400 workers at an Akron U.S. Postal Service encoding center were told Friday that they will be out of the job by February.

The employees at the Exeter Road facility learned about the layoffs at noon. Approximately half of the 420 workers are career employees. The other half are temporary workers.

The career employees were told they could be eligible for other jobs at Postal Service facilities within a 200-mile radius of Akron.
