Filing Deadline For Cadidates Is 5 Months Away

UPDATED: 7:24 pm EST April 1, 2005

One of the candidates in the upcoming race for Cleveland's top job is bowing out.

Councilman Reed
NewsChannel5 reported Friday that City Councilman Zack Reed had decided not to run against Mayor Jane Campbell this fall.

Reed is one of council's most vocal members and had expressed interest in challenging the current mayor.

Reed said he listened to advisors who warned it would be difficult for him to defeat an incumbent mayor.

Still in the race is City Council President Frank Jackson, who is expected to kick of his campaign April 7.

Former public safety director James Draper announced his candidacy last week, vowing to strengthen the city's safety forces.

The filing deadline for candidates is five months away.
