Police Stand By How They Handled Demonstration

HUDSON, Ohio -- Many in Hudson, particularly students, have been outraged at the firing of the Hudson High School principal Roger Howard, NewsChannel5 reported. The school board voted not to renew Howard's contract at a school board meeting this week.
So far, the decision has created such a stir in the community that students decided to walk out of school on Tuesday. Today, the students said they are planning another demonstration.

WEWS video shows students being pepper-sprayed.Hundreds of students left the high school and marched over to the superintendent's office with the hope of getting their principal's job back.Police said the dash cam video shows that what started out as a peaceful demonstration turned into chaos when one student climbed into a tree.Police said when the student was arrested, other students charged at them. That's when they say they were forced to use pepper spray to calm them down.Police at the scene also called in backup from area police departments.In addition, police said the students were throwing snowballs and yelling before things got out of control.
