AKRON, Ohio -- Akron's new 311 information line has been up and running for two weeks now. Workers operating the line say they've gotten more calls about stray cats and leaf pickup than anything else, NewsChannel5 reported. The 311-call system cost $1.6 million. It is modeled after similar programs in other cities. The system was six years in the making and city officials hoped 311 would handle all non-emergency phone calls to Akron City Hall. The phone line is staffed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.
