Akron Dials Up 311 For Non-Emergency Calls

Phone System Goes Active Monday

POSTED: 3:26 pm EST November 8, 2004

Akron residents now have an easier way to contact City Hall.

The $1.6 million, 311 phone system began operations Monday, NewsChannel5 partner WAKR reported.

The system was six years in the making and city officials hope 311 will handle all non-emergency phone calls to Akron City Hall.

The phone line will be staffed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Akron spokesman Mark Williamson told WAKR that "the goal of 311 is to be a one-stop shop for residents who have complaints or need information."
