Election Officials: Man Poses As Voters Group Rep Over Phone

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake County Board of Elections is warning voters about a man who is allegedly calling people and posing as a representative of a voters group.The Board of Elections said it has received calls from concerned voters who say that a man with a heavy accent called them, indicating that he needed to confirm information, such as date of birth or Social Security numbers, so that the individuals could vote in November.One voter said the man identified himself as a representative of Women Who Vote, another said he may have said League of Women Voters.Director Janet F. Clair said that there is no legitimate organization conducting a voter registration drive that is seeking information over the phone.The Lake County Board of Elections never asks for personal information such as Social Security number or date of birth over the phone.If you get a similar call, you are urged to get as much information about the organization the person says he or she is representing and reported it to the Lake County Board of Elections at (440) 918-2700.
