Imam Found Guilty Of Lying About Alleged Terrorist Ties

CLEVELAND -- A federal judge Tuesday rejected a defense request to overturn the conviction of a Cleveland-area mosque leader, reported NewsChannel5. Imam Fawaz Mohammed Damra was found guilty in June of lying about alleged ties to terrorist groups when he applied for U.S. citizenship.The judge also rejected the defense's request for a new trial.The Palestinian-born Damra leads Ohio's largest mosque, the Islamic Center of Cleveland, located in Parma.Damra could face up to five years in prison, $5,000 in fines and deportation.His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 20.
