Wrong-Way Driver Allegedly Driving With Suspended License

Suspended License Drivers Are Problem Beyond This Case

The woman accused of killing two people in May while driving drunk didn't lose her license until this week, reported NewsChannel5's Debora Lee.

Moore
Robbie Moore has been charged with causing the fatal crash. Police say she was driving drunk on Interstate 90 and going the wrong way when she crashed into a motorcycle, killing the two people on it.

Since the accident, Moore had been driving, but it was legal for her to do so. At the time of the crash, she was in the process of getting her license reinstated, and was legally allowed to drive.

Associate Prosecutor Carol Skutnik said Moore's license had been suspended for failure to prove financially responsible.

Moore said since her driving privileges have been revoked, she has not been behind the wheel.

Driving without a valid license is a problem that reaches far beyond Moore's case, reported Lee.

Thousands of cases make their way into Cleveland Municipal Court every year.

"I've had people come through who, over a lifetime, have 14, 15, 16 suspensions, and they're still driving because unless you're going to lop off their legs ... when they come out of jail, if they have someplace to go, they get behind the wheel again," said Judge Ronald Adrine.

Moore's attorney, James Hardiman, says whether or not his client's license was suspended the night of the wreck is yet to be determined.

But he agrees, driving under suspension is a problem.

"It will continue to be a problem. I agree with the state that driving is a privilege that should not be abused and in this incident, it's unfortunate there will be winners coming out of this," said Hardiman.
