WESTLAKE, Ohio -- A 51-year-old California woman was arrested on burglary charges Monday after she reportedly entered a home claiming to be an animal welfare investigator. Debra J. Brooke reportedly entered a home on Sperry's Forge Trail in Westlake and said she had numerous complaints about the number and condition of the animals in the home.Officials indicate that Brooke had the couple feed the kittens and parrot, who she wanted them to make speak. The children also held the kittens so that Brooke could reportedly observe the interaction. It was later discovered that Brooke was visiting family members nearby and after a conversation about the animals, she decided to investigate. It's unclear what type of conversation took place about the animals and who it involved. Brooke was reportedly wearing a black blazer and pants and carrying a black clipboard when she entered the Westlake home.Brooke, who is a member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said she told the residents that she was a member of the organization. Her bond was set at 10 percent of $5,000, which was posted, but she is not permitted within 1,000 yards of the victims. She is scheduled to appear in the Rocky River Municipal Court at 9 a.m. July 7.
