AKRON, Ohio -- Day 2 of the trial of an Islamic cleric charged with lying about alleged terrorist ties featured video tapes showing the imam raising money for alleged terror groups.
Imam Fawaz Mohammed Damra is the leader of the Islamic Center of Cleveland. Wednesday in Akron federal court, prosecutors showed videotapes in which Damra is raising money for the Islamic Committee for Palestine. In the video, Damra says the committee is "the active arm of Palestinian Islamic Jihad in America." On the tape, Damra also introduces Sami Al-Arian as the head of the committee. Al-Arian is a former University of South Florida professor accused of using an Islamic think tank and a charity to raise money for the P.I.J.
