Winery Gets Extra Month To Report Damages
Owners Given Until Sept. 1 To File Report
POSTED: 10:44 a.m. EDT August 3, 2000
The owner of the collapsed Lonz Winery on Middle Bass Island has been given an extra month to report on the extent of the damage.
NewsChannel5 reports that Cleveland-based Paramount Distillers originally had until Saturday to provide a report on the terrace collapse.
Ottawa County chief building inspector Carl Pickett of Port Clinton said that Paramount has a new deadline of Sept. 1, according to The Associated Press.
Pickett said he was told that an engineering firm has inspected the winery, and the report is pending. He has extended the deadline so the company can submit an engineering plan on what parts of the winery can be stabilized and what parts need to be demolished, The AP reports.
The July 1 collapse killed one person and injured more than 70 others.
