Investigation Reveals Uncertified Instructor Teaching

A NewsChannel5 investigation uncovered how one area driving school could lose its license.

NewsChannel5's Paul Kiska reported how the state investigation is now leading to indictments.

Learning to become a safe, smart driver starts with a safe, smart driving school.

But is your teenager in good hands behind the wheel?

Professional Driving School has nine locations in northeast Ohio, but the Ohio Department of Public Safety has proposed revoking or denying the school's license to operate, reported Kiska.

In documents obtained by NewsChannel5, state investigators allege an instructor teaching teenagers how to drive was not even certified to do so.

Investigators wrote in a report, "person giving instruction without having an instructor's license".

During the investigation by the state highway patrol, one student claimed the instructor would leave the room during exams.

The student claimed, "It was obvious they didn't care if we cheated."

The report contained a list of 24 violations.

Eli Karsheh, one of the owner's son, told NewsChannel5 that his brother, Rami Karsheh, was the uncertified instructor.

But he said Rami Karsheh started teaching the class because they had to fire the licensed instructor, who was leaving classes early.

Eli Karsheh said he feels the school is being punished for being proactive.

"These are all allegations … it didn't necessarily happen the way the state is saying," said Eli Karsheh. "In the hearing, everything will be straightened out -- we'll take care of the problem."

Court records show Rami Karsheh was indicted last week on charges of forgery.

Professional Driving School is still operating, but a hearing on the future of their license is set for September.
