Nancy Hollister: Ohio's First Woman Governor

COLUMBUS, Posted 12:15 p.m. December 31, 1998 -- A milestone was reached in Ohio history today -- Nancy Hollister has become the 66th governor and the first woman to hold the job.NewsChannel5 reports the oath of office was administered in Columbus by State Supreme Court Justice Evelyn Stratton. Hollister will serve out George Voinovich's term before Governor-Elect Bob Taft takes over Jan. 11.
Voinovich joins the U.S. Senate Jan 4.
Hollister was elected Ohio's first female lieutenant governor in 1994. She will be the first to serve as governor on a short-term basis since 1957.
